Ryan Tran is a rising junior at Pomona College majoring in Molecular Biology and minoring in Chinese. He is from Aurora, Colorado, and he attended the University of Colorado, Boulder for his first year before transferring to Pomona College in Southern California. He plans to attend medical school and is interested in specialties such as pathology, cardiology, and oncology.
Ryan has previous experience in conducting PCR, Southern and Western blotting, chromatin immunoprecipitation, Bradford Assays, genomic and mini preps, and bacterial transformation. He is also currently in the Negritto Lab at Pomona College investigating the role of Rad3, a subunit of transcription factor IIH, in short sequence recombination and in maintaining genomic stability. Through this, he has experience working with growing yeast and maintaining C. elegans as well as using programs such as BioRender, DNASTAR, and ImageJ.
Ryan is very ecstatic to be joining the Bouchard Lab, where he hopes to learn more about cancer biology and O-glycoproteomics. His role will be focusing on utilizing mass spectrometry to identify key spatial biomarkers and O-glycosylated proteins present on fibroblasts within the tumor microenvironment.
Welcome Ryan!
